Birmingham Branch Notices Dec 2017
We are so
sorry that we could not safely hold our Christmas party as planned. It seemed
better to make that choice than to risk members setting out in such difficult
conditions. The competition and gold raffle will happen in January instead, as
will the cakes, drinks and savoury treats, so we will have a Happy New Year
Party instead. Please bring competition entries in January instead. We will
also hold the January raffle that night so please in January bring whatever you
had planned for Gold and anything for a red bag too.
We will
organise another meeting to hear from Deed as we don’t want to miss out on
this.
Forty years as a branch, ruby
squares and other ideas. If anyone still hasn’t picked up their canvas please get one in
January. The deadline for handing completed pieces in will be the April Meeting
We continue to
meet at the Library first Saturday
of the month and will be there in 2018 on January
6th.
The new regional steering group is organising a
meeting with the three officers from each branch in February. We will be going
and will discuss this at the committee beforehand. Please contact Bernadette,
Meriel or Anne if you have any issues/good ideas you would like us to take
along.
Don’t forget Day Schools and sign up with Margaret
if you fancy attending a day. The recent workshop with Richard Box was hugely enjoyable. The next Day school is March 24th Alternative Textile
Quilting with Maria Thomas. June 30th is Margaret Fairhead: River reflections in black and white. If you
have never been to a workshop do think about having a go - the cost remains £25
which is a real bargain compared with the rate charged for other workshops
commercially organised and we have a great time.
We have agreed
the 5 most positive attributes of
our branch based on your feedback to be promoted by the central guild and for
us to use locally they are:
- · We are a friendly welcoming group, like-minded and at the same time very individual, and always hope to attract new people to join us.
- · The meetings are varied and can feature often inspirational speakers and opportunities to engage in activities together
- · The branch membership collectively is a font of good ideas and expertise with a real willingness to share
- · We regularly run high quality and good value for money workshops
- · We provide opportunities for members to learn new skills, to take part in projects as a group and to display their work to others
The central guild
is organising a commemoration of the ending of World War One 100 hearts war stories. All guild
members are invited to take part by making a heart. Materials will be provided
at a cost of £12.50 and you are invited then to make your own personal
interpretation which will be displayed as widely as possible. All the details
are on the Guild Website please have a look and thing about taking part. Some
hard copies of the information will be there in January for those who can’t
access this on line.
Don’t forget to
let someone from the committee know if you would be interested in joining a
small working group to look at the possibility of a Birmingham based Young
Embroiderers group to supplement our existing very successful group.
Open day on Easter Saturday is
cancelled. After further
canvassing of availability we have decided this is not viable watch this space
for an alternative.
Our January meeting is on
8th Jan with one of our annual favourites - a tale of two members with Clare
Wilkins and Bev Archer
The
January Raffle colour is red. Please
bring a contribution as explained above and we look forward to celebrating the New
Year with you all.

raffle bags.
We hope you have a very Happy
Christmas and New Year and look forward to sharing lots of positive
experiences together as a guild in 2018 and having a New Year celebration with
you instead of the December party.
