Summer Competition 13 July 2015 - Inspired by the Portfolios

Last September we had an inspiring meeting where we were able to look at a collection of Guild Portfolios.

Lots of us took photographs, some sketched and we were all inspired.

The theme for our summer competition is 'Inspired by the Portfolios' and it's nearly here so if you haven't already got your entry ready it's time to start. here's a bit of a reminder of what we saw.

Remember this is not about copying a design and you can interrupt the theme however you like.

Here's a bit of a reminder of what we saw last September:-

If you haven't entered before or for a long time it is a great chance to show your work to fellow members. The theme can be interpreted as widely as you like and knowing our members this will bring in a very wide range of work.

It might be a piece you have had tucked away for years or an item you have created especially for this competition. Any work is accepted, a long as it has some stitching - hand or machine; it can be a framed picture or a 3D extravaganza, a cushion or a bag.

Voting is simple - dishes will be provided and a coin of any value counts as one vote (and swells our funds). Members can vote as many times as they wish and the entry with the most coins is announced during the meeting and the cup is handed over.

May Branch Meeting - Travelling Books

At this Monday's branch meeting (May 11th) we will be starting our Travelling Books Project, which you may have seen this discussed in previous issues of Contact magazine. The project involves members having their own book, and working in groups to create a small piece of embroidery each month in each book in turn, leading to a fabulous range of embroidery which the book's owner gets to keep at the end.

Some travelling books created by the Oxford branch
The Branch will supply the books for members to work in, and we would love for as many members as possible to take part in this fun project.

If you haven't already sorted your proxy vote for The Guild Constitutional Change Clare will be there and is happy to take proxy votes along to the EGM for you.

If you want to know more follow this link  https://www.embroiderersguild you will need your membership number on your membership card and your password.

If you're new to the Guild, visitors are welcome, and the first session is free, with a charge of £4 thereafter. Please see here for details of where we meet. See you there!
