Lots of support at the Library please

We will be back at the Library of Birmingham next Saturday September 6th.

This month we are returning to our normal spot  on the Mezzanine floor above the library cafe from 11am until about 1pm, and we would love for you to join us. Feel free to bring any stitching projects you are working on, and we will have felt, binca and other activities for both adults and children.

As always everyone is welcome and it will be great to have lots of members there as a few regulars can't make it. So even if you can only make it for an hours or so do come along to catch up, have a chat and a stitch.

September Meeting - a sneak preview

One advantage of our guild membership is the opportunity to have Folios owned and looked after by the Guild on loan to the branch.

Our  September meeting is  a special member's workshop where we have arranged to have three folios on loan from the Guild collection.  The folios are Africa, Plant Forms and  Fabric Spray and Paint by Vicky Lugg.

With the whole meeting devoted to the Folios all members should get plenty of opportunity to see all three and will be able to take photographs and  make sketches.  If you are new to drawing or want to brush up on your skills before the day take a look at  http://www.d4daisy.com/atssian.pdf.

Next years Summer competition is  'Inspired by the Folios' so come along in September to be inspired.

Now for the promised sneak preview :

Time for Competition planning

As you know we have our own competitions twice a year, at the summer party and at out Christmas Meeting.

Last month we had 'Happy Days'
Margaret's Happy Days winning entry
In December our theme is Holidays. If you haven't entered before or for a long time it is a great chance to show your work to fellow members. The theme can be interpreted as widely as you like and knowing our members this will bring in a very wide range of work.

It might be a piece you have had tucked away for years or an item you have created especially for this competition. Any work is accepted, a long as it has some stitching - hand or machine; it can be a framed picture or a 3D extravaganza, a cushion or a bag.

Voting is simple - dishes will be provided and a coin of any value counts as one vote (and swells our funds). Members can vote as many times as they wish and the entry with the most coins is announced during the meeting and the cup is handed over.

As well as our branch competitions members have joined in at other events:
Meriel's Regional Day entry

Anne's Uttoxeter prize winning piece

National Stitch Day at the Library of Birmingham 2104

We were at the library in August to celebrate National Stitch day.

Our display

There were 13 members - it was lucky for us! A total of 20 visitors stopped by to look, chat and join in including Eleanor with her mum Louise and gran Sheila.  Eleanor was soon stitching with help from Anne, not interested in Binca her eyes lit up at the sight of the doodle leaves and when she left us she had learned some new stitches including French knots and she took her work away to complete.

Seven people who have been before joined us again and others hope to be back now they know of our regular monthly spot.

There was plenty of choice for visitors to join in

Members continued with their doodled leaves and other projects.

We will be back on September 6th in our normal spot in the  Mezzanine floor above the library cafe from 11am until about 2pm
