Summer party and cakes galore

It was our summer party and we celebrated with gorgeous cakes from our Angela Rowles.

We had the calorie free variety from Greta Fitchett (more from Greta later in this blog)

We enjoyed a visit from Avoncroft Young Embroiderer's with a display of their excellent work.

The raffle proved to be extremely popular with a second special summer prize this month.
A violet bag and a special Summer Hamper

The special summer hamper prize was  won by Pam Henson

With Heather's purple wedding theme it was serendipitous that she should win the beautiful  violet bag and it's contents

We had a sneak preview of Heather's wedding flowers that many members have helped to create

The summer competition was 'Happy Days'. Margaret kindly lent us the cup for a few hours so that she could win it back again with this delightful entry:

We will let you know about more upcoming competitions over the summer so keep watching the blog.

Greta Fitchett
Greta talked to us about her cake and chocolate creation creations.  She explained her research which we all wanted to join in with. Greta impressed the importance of sketch books for recording ideas.

We were lucky enough to see examples that have featured in Stitch and those entered in 3D categories at quilting shows.
Members enjoyed a close up look at Greta's work

Examples of small quilts using small interesting  items like the tea spoon.

Chocy taster?
We are now looking forward to Greta's workshop 'Box of Chocs' coming on November 29th. Contact Margaret Richards or email birminghamembroiderersguild@gmail.com to sign up, places are limited and it's bound to be popular after our  taster session.
