Inspired By Klimt with Angie Hughes

This weekend, Birmingham Embroiderers' Guild welcomed Angie Hughes back to lead an excellent dayschool, creating beautiful foiled and stitched pictures inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt.

Angie brought lots of lovely supplies for us to use:

She spent some time taking us through effective techniques for using bondaweb, transfoils and sweetie foils to build up a beautiful surface.

We heated up the irons, and practiced on small samples of velvet:

Once we had a feel for how the transfoils worked, we took a look at some inspirational prints by Klimt, got out our Bondaweb and planned out our designs:

After lunch, Angie showed us some of her techniques for overlaying the velvet with organza and machine stitching into it, to produce a beautifully textured work:
